In the last few years, SMB's and enterprises have embraced cloud computing, and most of the organizations opted for it. But many of them are making common mistakes while choosing a cheaper solution. Today we will talk about the errors which we should avoid while doing cloud cost optimization.
Server performance: Servers are the backbone of the business. Minimum downtime and excellent performance are two main factors which are responsible for the smooth running of the web/ mobile application.
Security: While choosing a cloud provider, we should keep this in mind; datacenter should be tier 3+ or tier 4 certified. Customers should not directly jump to shared hosting if their data needs to be secure. They should at least go with VPS or Dedicated Servers.
Latency: Latency can be a big concern, but most people make this mistake, and they purchase hosting from outside India. To save money, they don't think how latency can affect their business.
Best suited configuration: Cloud computing organizations are smart enough to provide the best-suited servers as per the customer requirements, but on the other hand, customers should also understand what exactly they require for different types of workloads. For, eg. If the demand is for ample disk space, so they do not need to spend on higher RAM servers. We have such cloud providers who provide what customer requires.
Multiple products in a single platform: Always select a cloud provider who can give multiple products in a single platform for, eg. If a customer wants to host multiple domains, a single server they can go with cPanel or Plesk server instead of purchasing normal VPS and purchase cPanel license from different vendors or many times customer require a solution where they need Server, backup, load-balancer on a single platform. So we should always choose a vendor who can provide multiple products in a single platform.
Managed Services: Many companies these days require managed or semi-managed services along with the Server, but they ignore this fact, a company which is providing the cheapest Server will never give you managed or semi-managed services, in that case, the customer has to take managed services from a 3rd party vendor which is indirectly very costly. During cost optimization, we should keep in mind to go to a vendor who can provide Server and managed services at the best pricing.
SSD v/s HDD: Never compromise with server configuration, always select the best configuration at best pricing. We should avoid the biggest mistake we make while purchasing the cheapest Server. 80% of cloud providers provide HDD storage instead of SSD storage, which can be the biggest mistake.
