What is Grafana?

Grafana is an open source metric analytics & visualization suite, pulling up metrics that make sense of the massive amount of data & to monitor our apps with the help of cool customizable dashboards. It is most commonly used for visualizing time series data for infrastructure and application analytics.

Grafana connects with every possible data source, commonly referred to as databases such as Graphite, Prometheus, Influx DB, ElasticSearch, MySQL, PostgreSQL etc., being an open source solution also enables us to write plugins from scratch for integration with several different data sources.

How To Set Grafana Login Password using CLI ?

The instance/node/machine root credentials would be sent to your registered email address as soon as the Grafana deployment is launched.

To obtain the new credential at any time for admin user, follow the one-line command:

root@e2e-grafana:~# grafana-cli –homepath “/opt/bitnami/grafana/” admin reset-admin-password “NEWPASSWORD”

How do I access my Grafana Dashboard using Browser?

Once you have launched your Grafana instance, the Public IP address for your instance is sent to your account mail id. Access the dashboard via your browser by entering the Public IP address.

http://<IP-address>:3000

Once you login Grafana Home using your password for admin user which was set by you, can able to view below Home page, from there on you can start playing with metric analytics.

How to open/close port using UFW Firewall?

By default, grafana appliance port is configured to be accessible over the internet . To open/close grafana 3000 port to the only to specific IP addresses, please follow the below steps.

Connect to the instance/node/machine through SSH using root user credentials.

Execute the following command to open a port to a specific IP address

# ufw allow from IPADDRESS to any port 3000 proto tcp

Execute the following command to close a port to a specific IP address

# ufw deny from IPADDRESS to any port 3000 proto tcp

To close grafana 3000 port from the internet, please follow the below steps.

Execute the following command to close a port from internet accessible

# ufw deny 3000

Start or stop the Grafana service

To start, stop or restart Grafana and all its components you just need to run the below command.

Start Grafana:

# /opt/bitnami/ctlscript.sh start

Stop Grafana:

# /opt/bitnami/ctlscript.sh stop

Restart Grafana:

# /opt/bitnami/ctlscript.sh restart

Grafana Configuration files

The Grafana configuration file is the /opt/bitnami/grafana/conf/grafana.ini

Grafana log is the /opt/bitnami/grafana/logs/grafana.log

Grafana sqlite database is the /opt/bitnami/grafana/data/grafana.db

Grafana sqlite database log is the /opt/bitnami/grafana/data/log/grafana.log
